The astrolabe in the model is made of brass and is a replica of a model made in 1680 for a Sultan, probably a descendant of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II. This astrolabe has 4 inner discs for 21° (Mecca), 30° (Cairo), 34° (Sham), 36° (Aleppo), 41° (Istanbul), and 42° (Edirne). The 1666 Muḥammad Ṣāliḥ Tatawī’s astrolabe is 20 cm in diameter and made of brass.
